Nature
Seed ticks are already out! Normally it would only be an issue when I’m out on the trail in the woods later in summer or fall. But now, two days in a row, on the gravel road in August!
VERY tiny baby ticks and when you get them it’s usually 50+. Yikes.

Made an exception to my practice of avoiding non-essential use of a car to take a short drive with relatives to visit Elephant Rocks Park. The rocks consist of the remains of a pluton formed 1.4 billion years ago by cooling magma. A beautiful view.
Columbine, a native wildflower, interesting and pretty! Also, an excellent early spring hummingbird food source.
Flowers on a black locust tree.
Ride Journal 2021-7-24
Some fantastic trail rides recently. Well, they’re always fantastic. But currently just a bit better thanks to all the mushrooms and flowers. So much going on! One of several observed on today’s ride; BlackBerry lily, Iris domestica. Also known as leopard lilly.
American Water Willow
I’ve seen these before and have been waiting for them to bloom amongst some rocks near my daily trail ride.
Spring Wildflowers
The woods have come alive with a carpet of small white, pink and purple wildflowers.
