With all the rain we've had recently the creek is flowing really well. My favorite place to stop and be still. These are the best moments in my simple, slow life. Learning to be content in a smaller radius and with as little external fossil fuel input as possible.
Really nice trail ride today. Lots of wild flowers. Hypoxia hirsuta, common goldstar, one of those that's currently blooming.
Finally getting around to trying out Stable Diffusion via the Draw Things app on the iPad. The original photo taken on one of my gravel rides in southern Missouri. One image in the style of Van Gogh and another in the style of Thomas Hart Benton.
Some nice trail rides in recent days. Always a treat to observe the woods wake up in the early days of spring.
Furballs
Too many furry critters to work from bed this morning. Rosie started it when she decided to nap on my hand. 🥰
I've written several times about reducing waste. I don't wash my clothes as often as most people and when I do I tend to dilute so this jug has lasted me for a long time. Going forward I'll be using soap strips that come in paperboard. Imagine the energy/waste saved if millions did the same.
Auricularia americana, jelly tree ear or Auricularia auricula, wood ear. According to Wikipedia the first grows on broadleaf trees but is confined to Europe. The second grows on conifers and can be found in North America. These were found on the trunk remains of a broadleaf tree in North America.
Three Lichens, posted together for easier comparison.
Punctelia bolliana, Eastern speckled shield lichen
Cladonia, Pixie Cup Lichen
Turban cup lichen, Cladonia peziziformis
A welcome patch of green in the winter woods, Fan club moss, Diphasiastrum digitatum, known as groundcedar, running cedar or crowsfoot. It grows to a height of four inches, with the spore-bearing strobili held higher.
I love early spring rides in the woods. I can feel spring right around the corner! It's the time of year when I can hear the spring peepers and in a couple of weeks the first wildflowers will start to pop!
Forest within a forest. Turban cup lichen, Cladonia peziziformis. A species of cup lichen in the family Cladoniaceae. The thallus consists of two parts: the primary thallus and the upwardly podeties where the apotheci are found.
